Pressure vessels are among the most safety-critical equipment in any plant. When a fabrication shop receives a vessel package, the quality of the engineering documentation decides how fast and how safely the vessel can be built.

1. Design Calculations Are the Foundation

Every vessel package must include design calculations to ASME Section VIII Div. 1 — shell thickness, head thickness, nozzle reinforcement, and opening calculations. Without them, the shop cannot proceed and the AIA/authorized inspector will not sign.

2. Materials and Weld Maps

Material specifications, heat treatment requirements, weld maps and NDE (non-destructive examination) requirements must be clear. A good package tells the welder exactly which joints get RT, UT, MT or PT — with no ambiguity.

3. Nozzle Orientation and Supports

Nozzle orientation plans, support design and lifting details are where most fabrication delays happen. Coordinated drawings prevent clashes with piping and structure at the site.

4. Documentation for Inspection

Complete documentation — including the Manufacturer's Data Report (Form U-1), material test certificates and hydrostatic test requirements — keeps the shop inspection process smooth.
